In this 4 week series, participants will explore different ways of using dance, movement and somatic listening in support of mental health:

Topics include:

  • Emotional regulation: working with depression, stress, and anxiety

  • Trauma-sensitive practice: using gentle strength and conditioning exercises in a DMT context to support regulation and aid recovery

  • Experimenting with choreography: Modifying dance styles for therapeutic purposes

This workshop series draws on learnings from my Phd and includes a weekly handout highlighting theoretical and practical ideas.

"This professional development series is a deep dive into dance movement therapy methods for therapists who are wanting to implement body-based approaches into their practice. Ella shares her professional expertise in this field along with the latest research, showcasing how it can be applied in a variety of contexts including trauma, chronic pain, mental health and disability, to name a few. She is an incredible facilitator with a warm and gentle style, allowing participants to experience the methods directly via body-based activities with time allocated for reflection at the end of each session. I have implemented what I’ve learnt throughout this series with NDIS participants with excellent results. I highly recommend this professional development to anyone wanting to advance their knowledge in this area." Anna S.

Ella brings a wealth of wisdom, knowledge and attention to detail in her PD series. She used current evidence-based research to carefully curate and facilitate a range of multiple approaches (both traditional and contemporary) to DMT practice for various populations. She offered these experiences in a way that made you feel comfortable, connected and supported throughout the series. I highly recommend anyone who is interested in dance/movement therapy to attend a workshop of Ella’s. You will come away with new tools and insights that you can adapt to your own practice or everyday life! Helena H.

Ella's professional development sessions provided me with a lot of clarity and a possibilities of expansion for my work as a dance movement therapist. Her extensive facilitation experience and attention to detail made available to me a more rich perspective to deliver the work. We refresh concepts and remember to break down processes to discover the variety of possibilities we are faced with when facilitating movement and holding space for a client’s psyche process.

Helped me develop my work style and skills by covering all of this in a fun and engaging way, supported by resources and evidence-based theories that we can broaden our knowledge and dive into based on our interests. I will surely participate in any future PD series Ella offers. Strongly recommended! - Zoyka F.
